Parent Conferences

 In addition to the student conferences that are done on an as-needed basis, two parent conferences are scheduled with every GEAR UP parent. Conferences are conducted by the GEAR UP Coordinator or the student's school counselor. The first conference takes place at the MHS parent conferences, and a second conference is scheduled in the spring to talk about the student's progress in school and the program. These conferences take place during the first and third quarter on the district's academic calendar.

 

 

Parent Meetings

 

Each month parents have the opportunity to attend a parent meeting informing them of upcoming GEAR UP events, to provide them with an opportunity to see what GEAR UP students have learned and accomplished in the program, as well as to communicate the value of attending college. These meetings will also serve to remind students and parents of the GEAR UP participation requirements. The GEAR UP Director, Coordinator, and Secretary are in attendance. Meetings are run by the GEAR UP Director or Coordinator and at times include guest speakers as well as student presentations.  All parent meetings will take place in the MHS Performing Arts Center or Library. The parent meeting schedule is as follows:

All GEAR UP parents are invited to join the parent advisory committee, which assists the district in strengthening the GEAR UP Scholars Project. For parents interested in joining the committee, a sign-up sheet will be available at monthly parent meetings. The Parent Advisory Committee meets twice during the school year (January and June) to evaluate the program and gather parent/student input. The GEAR UP Director and Coordinator serve on this committee.
